Restaurants on Fehmarn: Where to eat for every occasion

There are around 120 catering establishments on Fehmarn, ranging from fish sandwich stalls at the harbour to hotel restaurants on the south beach. That is the number listed in the Fehmarn Tourist Information Service’s restaurant guide as of October 2026. On holiday, therefore, the problem is rarely a lack of choice, but rather deciding which place is right for this evening. An evening for two calls for something different from lunch with tired children after four hours on the beach.

This page therefore lists the island’s restaurants by occasion rather than in order of ranking. At the top of the list are the establishments we know personally and recommend. For all the others, we simply reproduce what the establishments say about themselves and note this accordingly. We checked every restaurant listed here in the Tourism Service directory in October 2026. We have deliberately omitted prices, opening hours and closing days, as these vary from season to season.

Where the restaurants on Fehmarn are located

The island’s restaurants are spread across four locations, each with its own character. In Burg on Fehmarn, most of the restaurants are situated on Breite Straße and around the market square, all within walking distance of one another. On the south beach in Burgtiefe, hotel restaurants, bistros and beach bars line the promenade and the marina.

The third area is the harbours. Burgstaaken, Lemkenhafen and Orth have restaurants right by the water, most of which serve fish. The fourth area comprises the villages and campsites along the coast. It’s quieter and more rural there, and you’ll need a bike or a car to get there.

What you should know beforehand

Book in advance during the peak season, especially at weekends. This applies particularly to the restaurants in Burg and to those with a view of the water. A phone call in the morning is usually enough and will save you from having to go round three packed restaurants.

And make sure you plan your routes. Fehmarn is a compact island, but it’s a good ten kilometres from Petersdorf in the west to the southern beach. If you fancy a glass of wine in the evening, Burg and Burgtiefe are your best bet if you don’t have a car.

Dining out with your dog

Dogs are welcome in many restaurants on Fehmarn. According to the establishments themselves, this applies, amongst others, to the Osteria Rustica, the Fischbistro Kombüse, Zum Haifisch and the Doppeleiche in Burg; the Samoa and the Aalkate in Lemkenhafen; the Seeblick in Wulfen; the Niobe in Gammendorf; the Dorfkrug in Petersdorf; and the Landgasthof Petersen in Landkirchen.

In summer, the terrace is usually the more relaxing option, as your dog has more space there and nobody has to walk past the table. If you’re travelling with your dog anyway, you’ll find suitable options with us Vacation homes with dog.

Accommodation near you

If you live in Burg or Burgtiefe, there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance, so you don’t need a car in the evenings. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, you can live a bit further out and be prepared to drive a few minutes to get to a restaurant.

At Inselblume Fehmarn You’ll find high-quality vacation homes and bungalows in great locations. If you fancy a walk to a restaurant in the evening, you’ll find the perfect place amongst our Accommodation in prime locations.
